Many people don't know what the Information Systems major is, or how it can profoundly impact their lives. Our job was not only to make IS relevant to student-athletes but also to make them truly care about IS.

We started by conducting interviews with student-athletes to gain insights about what matters to them, the barriers they may face, and the goals they have. We found that many of our users are currently searching for internships, and are looking for a platform that makes internship search quick and easy.

We built InternMatch, which uses a swiping mechanism to quickly display several internships that are customized to each user's preferences. There are also "Connection Cards" which display IS student-athletes and their contact information to aid in networking.

After several iterations of the product, we added more "How does IS help you" popups and descriptions that detail the role IS plays in the creation of our product. In our final rounds of user testing, we received overwhelmingly positive results, with 100% of target users stating that they would use this product if it came out on the App Store.
How might we...
Make Information Systems relevant to CMU non-IS student athletes?
